Biography
I was born in Plymouth, England. After leaving school I went on to complete a four year apprenticeship as a Turner and Grinder. My career has taken many turns and changes of direction. It was during my apprenticship that I started my relationship with photography which still remains a burning passion and loyal companion. I borrowed an old Practika Super TL and 200mm lens to take some photographs of an Air show on Plymouth Hoe. My interest developed from shooting everything and anything including weddings to eventually find the greatest pleasure in outdoor photography, Landscapes and monochrome. These two subjects complement my enjoyment of getting away from the rat race through walking and camping.
Since starting in 1988 I have owned many cameras, worked with all types of film, and before transitioning to digital I printed my own colour and monochrome prints. The switch to digital was completed in 2005, however I have taken a step backwards and now get my images printed on traditional photographic paper – I still think the quality is better than ink jet especially for mono work. I currently use a Canon Digital SLR Cameras, lee filters, manfroto tripods. Image manipulation is carried out Photoshop.
I have had success at Plymouth Camera Club, and in National Exhibitions. In the future I hope to have more success with exhibitions, and sell prints.
